Quick Read

  • Day 22 (Thursday, 5 Nov) added Rs 1.60 crore net, down 46.7% from Day 21’s Rs 3.00 crore.
  • India net stands at Rs 467.65 crore; India gross is Rs 546.95 crore and worldwide gross is Rs 823.45 crore.
  • Tamil gave Rs 1.30 crore of the day’s Rs 1.60 crore. The film starts streaming on Prime Video on 12 November.

Ramayana arrived, and Jailer 2 felt it at once. The Rajinikanth film made Rs 1.60 crore net on Day 22, Thursday, 5 November. That is a 46.7% drop from Day 21’s Rs 3.00 crore. Sacnilk reports the fall came with a sharp cut in shows. The film ran 2,976 shows on Day 22, at 15.2% occupancy.

The drop was expected. A new giant release takes screens first, then viewers. Single screens move fast to the new film. Multiplexes keep the old one only where seats still fill. Jailer 2 is in its fourth week. What is left now is the slow tail.

The Day 22 split, language by language

Tamil still carries the film. It gave Rs 1.30 crore on Day 22 from 2,493 shows. That is 81.3% of the day’s total. Telugu added Rs 22 lakh from 336 shows. Hindi gave Rs 5 lakh from 103 shows. Kannada gave Rs 3 lakh from 44 shows.

Do the per-show maths and the picture gets clearer. Rs 1.60 crore across 2,976 shows works out to about Rs 5,376 per show. That is a thin crowd in most halls. A film at this stage lives on a few strong centres, not on wide demand. Tamil Nadu still fills seats. The other versions are down to a handful of shows each.

Overseas added Rs 50 lakh on Day 22. That takes the overseas gross to Rs 276.50 crore. The worldwide gross now stands at Rs 823.45 crore. India gross is Rs 546.95 crore, and India net is Rs 467.65 crore.

Ramayana is the reason for the fall

Day 21 was the last clean day. Jailer 2 made Rs 3.00 crore then, down just 10.4% from Day 20’s Rs 3.35 crore. Day 22 nearly halved that. The cause is plain. Ramayana opened on 5 November with about 25,200 shows in India. It took the screens Jailer 2 was using.

Trade watchers had flagged this squeeze a day early. NDTV Profit noted that single screens would put Ramayana first, while multiplexes would keep Jailer 2 only where demand held. That is what the Day 22 count shows. Shows fell, occupancy stayed low, and the daily total dropped by almost half.

The weekend may soften the fall a little. Saturday and Sunday always lift older films. But Ramayana’s second weekend will be bigger, and two more Tamil releases were listed for 6 November. Jailer 2 will not get its screens back.

One line on the other tracker

Box Office India 24, which counts by a different method, puts Day 22 at Rs 1.74 crore net and its India total at Rs 456.98 crore net. Sacnilk’s figures are higher on both counts. The gap is normal. The two trackers count different samples of theatres. We use Sacnilk as the main source and note BOI24 so readers can see the range.

The Rs 500 crore net mark is now out of reach

India net is Rs 467.65 crore. The Rs 500 crore mark needs Rs 32.35 crore more. At Day 22’s pace, that would take about 20 more days of flat collections. Collections are not flat. They are falling by nearly half a day after a big release. The film will not get there in theatres.

Week 4 tells the same story. Day 21 gave Rs 3.00 crore. Day 22 gave Rs 1.60 crore. Two days of week 4 add up to Rs 4.60 crore. The whole of week 3 was far bigger. The run is winding down, and the numbers now move in lakhs, not crores.

None of that takes away from the run. Jailer 2 is the first Tamil film to cross Rs 800 crore worldwide, per Sacnilk. It passed 2.0, which ended at Rs 691 crore worldwide. The film also crossed Rs 821 crore on Day 21. It is the highest-grossing Tamil film ever by this count.

Theatres end soon, streaming starts 12 November

Prime Video announced on 5 November that Jailer 2 will start streaming on 12 November. It will be out in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada, across India and more than 240 countries and territories, per News18. That gives the film just one more week in cinemas.

The OTT date explains the hurry. Tamil films often keep a four-week cinema window, and Jailer 2 will finish its fourth week right as streaming starts. Once it is on Prime Video, theatre shows will fall to almost nothing.
