Suriya’s Scene opened at ₹19.15 crore net in India on Day 1, Friday 6 November, per Sacnilk. The India gross was ₹22.25 crore, and overseas added ₹12 crore, taking the worldwide total to ₹34.25 crore.
That opening beats Suriya’s last film, Karuppu, which opened at ₹15.50 crore net on Day 1. Scene opened ₹3.65 crore higher. It also opened bigger than Vishwanath & Sons. For a film that released on the same day as Ramayana’s second day, that is a strong start.
Scene vs Mookuthi Amman 2: the gap
The day’s other big Tamil release, Nayanthara’s Mookuthi Amman 2, made ₹1.88 crore net in India on Day 1, from 2,127 shows. Tamil gave ₹1.75 crore and Telugu gave ₹0.13 crore. The India gross was ₹2.15 crore.
The gap is wide: Scene made about 10 times more than Mookuthi Amman 2 on Day 1. The show count explains part of it — Scene ran 6,167 shows against 2,127, or 2.9 times more. But shows alone do not explain the whole gap. Scene also earned far more per show: about ₹31,052 net per show, against about ₹8,839 for Mookuthi Amman 2. Scene earned about 3.5 times more per show, so its screens were fuller too.

The forecast it nearly met
Sacnilk’s pre-release forecast was ₹22–30 crore India gross, and ₹36–44 crore worldwide. The actual Day 1 India gross was ₹22.25 crore, just inside the low end. The worldwide total of ₹34.25 crore sits just below the forecast range of ₹36–44 crore.
Advance booking told the same story. The whole Diwali weekend advance was ₹26.05 crore gross. Day 1 advance alone was ₹12.17 crore. That advance was 54.7% of the Day 1 gross of ₹22.25 crore. Advance sales gave the film a strong start, and walk-ins added the rest.
Mookuthi Amman 2: a slow start
Mookuthi Amman 2 made ₹1.88 crore net in India on Day 1, from 2,127 shows. Tamil gave ₹1.75 crore and Telugu gave ₹0.13 crore. The India gross was ₹2.15 crore. Its advance booking was ₹3.40 crore gross across six show dates.
The show count explains part of the gap. Mookuthi Amman 2 ran 2,127 shows against Scene’s 6,167. That is 2.9 times fewer shows. But shows alone do not explain the whole gap. Scene also earned far more per show: about ₹31,052 net per show, against about ₹8,839 for Mookuthi Amman 2. Scene earned about 3.5 times more per show, so its screens were fuller too.
No overseas figure has been reported yet for Mookuthi Amman 2. Sacnilk has not put out one. So this post gives no worldwide total for the film. Any worldwide number for it today would be a guess, and we do not guess.

What viewers are saying
Early viewer talk has been kind to both films’ stars. Nayanthara has drawn praise for her role in Mookuthi Amman 2. Regina Cassandra, who plays the villain, has drawn the strongest praise of all, with viewers saying her act steals the spotlight. That praise has not yet turned into ticket sales, but word of mouth can build over a weekend.
Scene has the better hand going into Saturday. It has more shows, fuller shows, and the bigger opening. If its Saturday holds near Friday’s level, it will pass ₹40 crore worldwide in two days. Mookuthi Amman 2 needs strong word of mouth to lift its second day above its first.
