Quick Read

  • Day 2 advance booking is Rs 22.25 crore gross, from 5.76 lakh tickets across 22,127 shows, per Sacnilk.
  • Day 1 ended at Rs 64.85 crore net and Rs 77.50 crore gross in India, short of the Rs 100 crore opening-day hope.
  • Day 2 needs Rs 35.15 crore net to take the two-day India total past Rs 100 crore.

Ramayana Part 1 opened big on Thursday, 5 November — but not as big as trade watchers had hoped. Day 2 will tell us if the film can still cross Rs 100 crore in its first two days.

Sacnilk’s final pre-release count puts Day 2 at Rs 22.25 crore gross with blocked seats, from 5.76 lakh tickets across 22,127 shows. Without blocks, it is Rs 17.35 crore from 4.45 lakh tickets.

Day 2 advance, the full count

Sacnilk tracked seven show dates. The film closed its pre-release advance at Rs 130.12 crore gross with blocked seats, Rs 105.12 crore without, from 36.37 lakh tickets across 1,08,169 shows.

Day 1 took the biggest slice, 38% of total pre-sales. Its final advance was Rs 50.08 crore gross, against Day 2’s Rs 22.25 crore. Opening day always pulls the most advance sales. The test for Day 2 is walk-ins.

Day 1 did not hit Rs 100 crore

Day 1 ended at Rs 64.85 crore net in India, Sacnilk reports. The India gross was Rs 77.50 crore. The film ran about 25,200 shows and sold close to 25.25 lakh tickets. Hindi led the way with Rs 47.50 crore net. Kannada came next with Rs 7.25 crore, then Telugu with Rs 6 crore, per The Times of India.

The Rs 100 crore opening day did not happen; the film fell short by about Rs 35 crore net. A Rs 64.85 crore start is still one of the biggest openings of the year — just not the record-breaker many expected.

North America was soft too, at about $940,000 by noon Pacific time from 1,009 locations, per The Times of India.

What Day 2 needs for Rs 100 crore

Day 1 net is Rs 64.85 crore, so Day 2 must add Rs 35.15 crore net for a two-day net total of Rs 100 crore. On gross, Day 1 is Rs 77.50 crore, so Day 2 must add Rs 22.50 crore gross.

The advance nearly covers the gross target on its own: Rs 22.25 crore gross, just Rs 25 lakh short of the Rs 22.50 crore needed. And bookings did not stop at 6 AM — The Times of India reports the Day 2 advance has since grown to Rs 29.46 crore gross. If that holds, the Rs 100 crore gross mark for two days is already in the bag.

The net target is tougher. Day 2’s advance works out to roughly Rs 18 to 19 crore net, leaving about Rs 16 to 17 crore net still to find from walk-ins.

Day 1 walk-ins added Rs 27.42 crore

Day 1’s final advance was Rs 50.08 crore gross; its final gross was Rs 77.50 crore. The Rs 27.42 crore gap is the walk-in money — a 54.8% lift over the advance.

If Day 2 gets even half that lift, it clears the net target with ease. But Day 2 is also Dhanteras, so families will be out shopping for gold in the evening. The night shows will tell the tale. NDTV Profit reports Sacnilk’s early Day 2 estimate at Rs 1.24 crore net from 1,291 shows — a very early count, not the day’s result.

Two advance counts, and why they differ

Readers may have seen two different Day 2 advance numbers. Sacnilk’s final pre-release count says Rs 22.25 crore. The Times of India says Rs 29.46 crore. Both can be right. The first is a snapshot at 6 AM on release day. The second is a later count, after more bookings came in through the day. Advance sales stay open till showtime.

Blocked seats explain the second pair of numbers. With blocks, Day 2 is Rs 22.25 crore. Without them, it is Rs 17.35 crore.

Our own 5 November post gave Day 1 advance as Rs 49.75 crore gross, 13.71 lakh tickets and 26,590 shows. That was a pre-final snapshot. Sacnilk’s final 6 AM figures are a touch higher: Rs 50.08 crore, 14.05 lakh tickets and 26,615 shows.

What to watch today

Three things will shape Day 2. First, evening occupancy: Dhanteras shopping peaks in the late afternoon, so night shows are the real test. Second, the Hindi belt, which gave Rs 47.50 crore on Day 1. If Hindi holds, the film holds. Third, the weekend. Trade estimates cited by The Times of India put the first weekend near Rs 375 crore net. That is an estimate, not a fact.
