Quick Read
- Registration for JEE Main 2027 Session 1 is expected in the last week of October 2026 (per Shiksha, Times of College). NTA has NOT announced official dates yet.
- Session 1 exam (tentative): January 22–24 and 28–30, 2027. Session 2: April 2027.
- Ready your documents now: updated Aadhaar, photo (10–200 KB), signature (10–100 KB), Class 10 marksheet, category certificate if applicable.
JEE Main 2027 is about 10 days from its first big deadline — maybe. The National Testing Agency hasn’t announced the official schedule yet, but education portals Shiksha and Times of College (both updated October 5, 2026) expect Session 1 registration to open in the last week of October 2026. Sarvgyan’s October 8 update says the same.
Read that again: expected, not announced. Every date in this article is tentative until NTA publishes the official notification on jeemain.nta.nic.in. That said, the pattern from past years is consistent — and the students who have their documents ready on day one are the ones who don’t panic on the last day.
JEE Mains 2027 registration dates (tentative — mark them, don’t trust them blindly)
Here’s the expected timeline, per Shiksha’s 2027 tracker. Every line below is TENTATIVE:
- Registration opens: last week of October 2026
- Registration closes: around the 4th week of November 2026 (roughly a one-month window)
- Fee payment deadline: late November 2026
- Correction window: early December 2026 — your one chance to fix mistakes in the form
- Session 1 exam: January 22–24 and January 28–30, 2027, with January 31 as a buffer day
- Session 2 exam: April 2027 (registration for Session 2 opens separately, later)
The correction window deserves attention. NTA opens it for a few days after registration closes, and it’s the only time you can fix a wrong photo, a misspelled name, or a wrong category. Miss it, and the mistake stays on your admit card.
When the official notification drops, it will appear first on jeemain.nta.nic.in and nta.ac.in. Check those two sites — not coaching-centre forwards, not YouTube thumbnails.
Documents checklist: what you need before you start
Gather these before the form opens. The application asks for everything in one sitting, and expired or missing documents are the top reason forms get stuck:
- Updated Aadhaar card. Your Aadhaar details must match your Class 10 certificate — name spelling, date of birth, everything. If there’s a mismatch, get it corrected at an Aadhaar centre now, not in November.
- Alternate photo ID (PAN card, voter ID, or passport) — keep one handy as backup.
- Active mobile number and email ID. The OTP for registration and all future communication goes here. Use a number you will keep for the next two years, not a temporary SIM.
- Class 10 marksheet/certificate. Needed for date-of-birth and name verification.
- Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS), if applicable — must be in the prescribed format and valid for 2026–27.
- PwD certificate, if applicable.

Photo and signature rules (where most forms get rejected)
This is the section that ruins applications every year. NTA is strict about the uploads:
- Photograph: 10 KB to 200 KB, recent passport-size, taken against a plain background. Blurry selfies get rejected.
- Signature: 10 KB to 100 KB, on white paper with black ink, scanned clearly.
Who can apply: eligibility in plain words
- Qualifying exam: You must have passed Class 12 in 2025 or 2026, or be appearing in 2027. Students from 2024 or earlier are not eligible for JEE Main 2027.
- Subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in Class 12 (for B.E./B.Tech). For B.Arch/B.Planning the subject rules differ — check the official bulletin.
- Age: There is no upper age limit for JEE Main.
- Attempts: You can appear for a maximum of three consecutive years.
One more thing people get wrong: JEE Main is the gateway to NITs, IIITs, and other centrally funded institutes — and it’s also the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced, which is the IIT entrance. Registering for Main is step one of both paths.
Apply only on the official sites
When registration opens, the only place to apply is jeemain.nta.nic.in. The NTA’s main site nta.ac.in carries the official notification and bulletins.
Every year, lookalike websites pop up with names close to the official one, charging “registration fees” that go nowhere. And coaching centres will offer to “fill the form for you” — don’t hand your Aadhaar and documents to a third party. The form takes 30 minutes if your documents are ready.
Fee details will be in the official bulletin when it releases. Pay online through the portal itself — never to an agent, never through a link in a message.

5 mistakes that get JEE forms rejected
- Name mismatch. The name on the form must match your Class 10 certificate exactly — including initials and spelling. “Rahul Kumar” vs “Rahul K.” is a mismatch.
- Wrong photo size. Over 200 KB and the upload fails; under 10 KB and it’s flagged. Check the KB before uploading.
- Dead mobile number. If you lose access to the registered number, you lose access to admit cards, results, everything. Use a permanent number.
- Wrong category certificate. An OBC certificate in the wrong format, or an expired one, means your category claim gets cancelled at counselling.
- Waiting for the last day. Servers slow down, payment gateways fail, and the correction window won’t save you from a missed deadline. Fill it in the first week.
The NTA helpline for form-related queries is 011-40759000 (per Sarvgyan). Keep it saved — but call only after reading the official bulletin, because the helpline will quote the same document.
After you apply: what happens next
Once your form is accepted, the timeline moves fast. NTA releases the exam city intimation slip first — usually a week or two before the exam — telling you which city your centre is in. The admit card follows a few days before your exam date, with the exact centre address and your shift timing.
JEE Main runs in two shifts per day (morning and afternoon), and your paper is one of several sets. That’s why NTA uses percentile-based normalisation across shifts — a hard paper in your shift doesn’t sink your rank. What does sink it is a rejected form. So: right documents, right sizes, first week. The rest is preparation.
