Quick Read

  • Gajab Raat (Netflix, Oct 23): Manoj Bajpayee plays a corrupt cop through one chaotic night; earlier titled Ghooskhor Pandat before the controversy forced a rename. Free Press Journal gave it 3.5/5.
  • Chaar Yaar (Prime Video, Oct 23): 8-episode Hindi crime drama — four middle-class friends in early-2000s Mumbai slip into the underworld.
  • Also new: Sumo Didi (ZEE5) — sports biopic of India’s first woman sumo wrestler; The Legend of Hanuman Season 7 (JioHotstar); Nani’s The Paradise (Netflix, Oct 22) — plus Lupin Part 4 and the live-action Moana.

Five fresh OTT releases this weekend, and every platform dropped something worth your time. Theatres are quiet — nothing big in Hindi until Ramayana on November 5 — so the streamers have stacked Friday and Saturday with five genuinely fresh Indian titles, plus a few international ones for the backlog. Here’s the full map.

Gajab Raat (Netflix, Oct 23)

The headliner. Manoj Bajpayee plays a cop caught between easy money and his own conscience, in a crime thriller that unfolds over a single night — one decision, then chaos. It’s directed by Ritesh Shah in his directorial debut, and produced by Neeraj Pandey, his fourth collaboration with Netflix after Taskaree, Khakee and Sikandar ka Muqaddar.

The film had a different name until recently: Ghooskhor Pandat. It ran into trouble over alleged defamation of the Brahmin community, and the makers renamed it Gajab Raat. Divya Dutta, Akshay Oberoi and Nushratt Bharuccha co-star. The early word is solid — Free Press Journal rated it 3.5 out of 5 and singled out Bajpayee’s performance.

Chaar Yaar (Prime Video, Oct 23)

Eight episodes, one era. Set in early-2000s Mumbai, this Hindi crime drama follows four middle-class boys — Jay, Tony, Saahil and Sameer — who drift into the city’s underworld while chasing a better life. When the police start closing in, their friendship becomes the only thing holding them together. It’s the kind of period crime series that works best as a two-night binge.

Sumo Didi (ZEE5, Oct 23)

The most unusual true story on this list. Sumo Didi is a sports biopic on Hetal Dave — India’s first professional female sumo wrestler — directed by Jayant Rohatgi, with Shriyam Bhagnani in the lead. Young Hetal faces constant body-shaming over her weight; her mother wants her to slim down and marry. She wants to represent India at the World Sumo Championship. The trailer leans hard into training montages, and the defiance-to-dream arc is pure weekend-watch material.

The Legend of Hanuman Season 7 (JioHotstar, Oct 23)

The animated mythology series is back for a seventh season. If your household watches together — kids and grandparents — this is the safe family pick of the weekend. New season, same Hanuman, JioHotstar.

The Paradise (Netflix, Oct 22)

Nani’s Telugu action drama landed on Netflix on Thursday, a day before the Friday pile. Set in 1980s Secunderabad, it follows a marginalised community under an oppressive landlord — then Jadal, a former prisoner, returns after 14 years and becomes the face of a rebellion. Directed by Srikanth Odela, with Raghav Juyal in a key role. It’s streaming in Telugu plus dubbed Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada.

One thing to know: the Netflix version is reportedly around 24 minutes shorter than the theatrical cut, with some sequences removed. If you saw it in cinemas, this isn’t quite the same film.

Also worth a look

Lupin Part 4 (Netflix) — the French gentleman-thief series returns. Nobody Wants This Season 3 (Netflix, Oct 23) — the romantic comedy is back. Varam (JioHotstar, Oct 22) — the new season of the series. Moana live-action (JioHotstar, Oct 21) — the family adventure, now with real actors. Love in Disguise (Prime Video) — romantic thriller. Ayyana Mane 2 (ZEE5, Oct 23) — the Kannada series returns. And a bonus: Keerthy Suresh’s Dorothy is also streaming on Netflix from October 23, per Sacnilk’s weekly list.

Pick your night

Short on time? Here’s the cheat sheet. Thriller mood: Gajab Raat, no contest — Bajpayee carrying a one-night crime story is the weekend’s surest bet. Family night: The Legend of Hanuman S7 or Moana live-action. Want a true story with heart: Sumo Didi. Telugu action fix: The Paradise (in your language of choice). And if you want an 8-episode commitment, Chaar Yaar owns the binge slot.

Release dates and catalogue availability can vary by region — check the app before you settle in. The last full OTT list covered October 15–18; theatre-goers can check Ramayana Part One’s November 5 release for the next big-screen date.
