Quick Read
- New Zealand 195/3 beat India 191/8 by 7 wickets, with 12 balls to spare, at Seddon Park, Hamilton, on Nov 1.
- Tim Seifert hit 93 off 50 balls; Glenn Phillips finished unbeaten on 65 off 38.
- India won the five-match series 3-2; Phillips set a world record with 341 runs in a bilateral T20I series.
India’s innings: Kishan and Iyer rescue the total
India batted first — for the first time in the series — and finished on 191 for 8 in 20 overs. Ishan Kishan and captain Shreyas Iyer did the heavy lifting with a 93-run stand for the third wicket. Kishan smashed 61 off 32 balls, with 5 fours and 5 sixes. Iyer scored a fast 50 off just 23 balls. New Zealand pacer Adam Milne was the star with the ball, taking 4 wickets for 19 runs. His spell stopped India from crossing 200, and India faded in the death overs — the last few overs of the innings, when teams usually score fastest.
The chase: Seifert finds form at last
New Zealand lost Finn Allen early to Arshdeep Singh. Then Seifert took over. He got a lucky break in the fourth over — Naman Dhir dropped a simple catch when Seifert was on 13 off 15 balls. After that, Seifert smashed 93 off 50 balls, with 11 fours and 5 sixes, bringing up his fifty in 34 balls. He shared a 73-run stand with Daryl Mitchell (29 off 16) for the second wicket, then an 86-run stand with Glenn Phillips for the third wicket. Seifert fell to Nitish Kumar Reddy on 93, seven short of a century. Phillips, who reached his fifty in just 29 balls, stayed unbeaten on 65 off 38 balls and finished the match with a boundary. New Zealand reached 195 for 3 in 18 overs.

A record chase — and a record series for Phillips
Reaching 192 in 18 overs made it the fastest chase of 190-plus against India in T20Is, measured by overs, Outlook reports. India’s bowlers were thin on the night — Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakravarthy and Nitish Kumar Reddy took one wicket each — and the pitch got easier to bat on under lights. Glenn Phillips was named Player of the Series. His scores across the five matches were 82 not out, 70, 17, 107 and 65 not out — a total of 341 runs, with one century and three fifties. That broke Phil Salt’s world record for most runs in a bilateral T20I series (a series between two teams). Before this match Phillips had 276 runs in four games; his unbeaten 65 took him to 341.
Player of the Match — unconfirmed, sources disagree
Here is a real conflict, and this post does not hide it. CricTracker names Tim Seifert as Player of the Match for his 93. India.com, quoting a Sony Sports Network post, says “Player of the Match is Adam Milne for his match-winning spell of 4 wickets for 19 runs.” Both can’t be right. The match scorecard summary on ESPNcricinfo did not settle it in the version checked for this post. Treat the award as unconfirmed until the official scorecard is checked — the result, the scores and the series outcome are not in doubt.

What comes next
The ODI leg starts in Auckland on November 4. New Zealand will carry momentum from back-to-back wins — they also won the 4th T20I — but India leave with the T20I trophy after winning the first three matches of the series. New Zealand’s two late wins made the final margin 3-2, not the 5-0 sweep India had in sight after going 3-0 up.
