Gold did not move on Sunday. The Sunday Guardian’s October 25 rates put 24-carat gold at ₹14,258 a gram, 22-carat at ₹13,070 a gram, and 18-carat at ₹10,694 a gram in Mumbai and Chennai. Delhi is a touch higher, as usual: ₹14,273 for 24-carat, ₹13,085 for 22-carat, and ₹10,709 for 18-carat.
Sunday is a quiet day for the market. There is no MCX trading, so jewellers largely carry forward the last traded rates. That is why today’s numbers match the October 24 rates reported by Mathrubhumi, which had risen ₹10 a gram the day before.
Gold rate today in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai
Here are the October 25 rates per gram, as published by the Sunday Guardian:
Delhi: 24-carat ₹14,273, 22-carat ₹13,085, 18-carat ₹10,709. Mumbai: 24-carat ₹14,258, 22-carat ₹13,070, 18-carat ₹10,694. Chennai: 24-carat ₹14,258, 22-carat ₹13,070, 18-carat ₹10,695 — one rupee more than Mumbai on 18-carat, a rounding difference between city listings, not a real gap.
For 10 grams, the math is simple. In Mumbai and Chennai, 24-carat costs ₹1,42,580 and 22-carat costs ₹1,30,700. In Delhi, 10 grams of 24-carat is ₹1,42,730 and 22-carat is ₹1,30,850. Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune list the same rates as Mumbai, according to the same October 25 listing.
If you are buying jewellery, the 22-carat number is the one that matters. Pure 24-carat gold is too soft for daily-wear jewellery, so shops sell ornaments in 22-carat (91.6% pure, the “916” stamp) or 18-carat (75% pure). Coins and bars are the main place 24-carat shows up.
Why gold fell from its October highs
Just three days ago, on October 22, this site’s own gold tracker listed Delhi 24-carat at ₹14,622 a gram. Today’s ₹14,273 is about ₹350 a gram lower. Goodreturns’ October 24 report described the drop as a crash of roughly ₹55,600 per kilo from the recent peak, followed by a small ₹10-a-gram recovery.
Two things drive that kind of swing. First, the world price: India imports almost all its gold, so the dollar price per ounce sets the base. Second, the rupee: when the rupee weakens against the dollar, imported gold costs more in rupees even if the world price is flat. Both moved against buyers this month, then eased a little.
That context matters for Dhanteras shoppers. Dhanteras falls on November 6, less than two weeks away, and it is traditionally the biggest gold-buying day of the year. Buying this week means buying after a fall, not at the peak — but nobody can promise the price will not fall further before November 6. Our Dhanteras gold-buying guide lists 7 checks to run before you pay, including the hallmark and bill checks that catch most frauds.
Silver rate today: ₹220 a gram
Silver is unchanged at ₹220 a gram, or ₹2,20,000 a kilo, in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, per the same October 25 listing. That is a big number for a metal most people buy in small amounts — a 100-gram silver bar is ₹22,000 before charges — so check the weight and purity stamp before paying, just as with gold.
One caution: some listings showed Chennai silver at ₹2,25,000 a kilo. If your jeweller quotes far above ₹220 a gram, ask what is included — making charges on silver can be high relative to the metal value.
What you will actually pay at the shop
The rates above are not the bill. A jewellery bill adds making charges (often 8–25% of the metal value, sometimes a flat per-gram fee), plus 3% GST on the total of metal value and making charges. A 10-gram 22-carat chain at ₹1,30,700 metal value can easily bill at ₹1,45,000–₹1,60,000 once those are added.
Three habits save real money. First, ask for the per-gram rate, the weight, and the making charge as three separate lines on the bill — if a shop bundles them, you cannot compare prices. Second, check the BIS hallmark (the “916” mark plus the 6-digit HUID code) on every piece. Third, keep the bill: without it, selling the piece back later becomes a negotiation you will lose.
And a note on the numbers themselves: different rate websites disagree slightly. The Hindu BusinessLine’s gold page, for example, showed a much lower 24-carat figure (₹13,776 a gram) on the same morning, without a fresh update note. We have used the Sunday Guardian’s October 25 listing because it matches Mathrubhumi’s and Goodreturns’ October 24 city-wise tables to the rupee. If your local jeweller quotes something different, their live rate wins — these listings are a starting point, not a price guarantee.

FAQ
What is the gold rate today in Delhi? On October 25, 2026, Delhi 24-carat gold is ₹14,273 a gram and 22-carat is ₹13,085 a gram, per the Sunday Guardian’s October 25 listing.
Why is Delhi gold costlier than Mumbai? Local levies and jeweller pricing differ by city. The gap is small — ₹15 a gram on 24-carat today — and it flips direction some days.
Is today a good day to buy gold before Dhanteras? Gold is about ₹350 a gram below its October 22 level, so it is cheaper than last week. But prices can still move before November 6, so buy for the festival need, not as a bet on the price.
