Imran Khan is coming back. His film Adhure Hum Adhure Tum is set to release on OTT on December 18, and the team is rushing to finish post-production in time. Imran himself shared this update in an interview with Hindustan Times on October 10, 2026.
This will be his first film as a leading man since Katti Batti in 2015. That’s 11 years. No wonder fans are excited.
The film: a grown-up romantic comedy
Adhure Hum Adhure Tum is a romantic comedy — but a grown-up one. Imran told The Hollywood Reporter India it is “a grown-up romantic comedy… age-appropriate to where I am now.”
The film stars Bhumi Pednekar opposite Imran, with Gurfateh Pirzada in a supporting role. Danish Aslam is directing. He directed Imran before in Break Ke Baad (2010).
The title comes from a song in Break Ke Baad. It is not a sequel, though. Imran told News18 he sees it as a “spiritual successor,” with a nod to the older film. He also said the film draws on his own life — including marriage and separation — which makes it deeply personal for him.
The plot itself is still under wraps. No one has revealed the storyline yet.
In Imran’s own words
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Imran confirmed the team got a release target from the platform:
“We have been told that they intend to release it in mid-December, on December 18, so we are rushing to finish the post-production and deliver it to them on time.”
He added that the exact date doesn’t matter much to him, since the film is releasing on OTT, not in theatres. What matters is that people will finally see it.
Confirmed vs reported: what we actually know
Here is where things stand right now.
Confirmed: The film exists. It is in post-production. Imran and the team are working toward a December 18 target. Danish Aslam directs. Bhumi Pednekar and Gurfateh Pirzada co-star.
Reported, but not officially confirmed: News18 reports the film will stream on Netflix. However, neither Netflix nor the makers have made a formal announcement yet. The Times of India also notes the streaming platform is still unconfirmed.
Earlier plan that failed: The film was originally supposed to release in early 2026 on a major streaming platform. That did not happen. The December 18 date is a target, not a locked release date.
The 11-year break: why he walked away
Imran did not walk away in anger. He just drifted out, slowly.
In a 2024 interview with Film Companion, he said he never announced he was quitting. A week became a month, a month became a year, and then years. “My heart’s not in it” — that is how he described the feeling at the time.
His career had slowed down after 2013. Films like Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola, Once Upon Ay Time in Mumbai Dobaara!, and Gori Tere Pyaar Mein did not do well. Then Katti Batti (2015), opposite Kangana Ranaut, flopped. After that, he stayed away.
But in interviews this year, he went deeper. He told ETimes in January that fame never excited him. “The excitement of celebrity or fame is not interesting or intoxicating for me,” he said. He was financially secure, so money was not pushing him back to work. He wanted to spend time with his daughter and figure out what he actually wanted to do.
His uncle Aamir Khan once explained it best. In an interview with Screen, Aamir said Imran “finds it difficult to fit into the mainstream construct.” He is not comfortable with herogiri, Aamir said — he wants to play a real person, not a star.
That line explains a lot about this comeback. Imran did not wait for a big action blockbuster. He picked a mature romantic comedy written with his own life in it.
His quiet return already started
Earlier in 2026, Imran appeared in a cameo in Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos. The film was backed by Aamir Khan and co-directed by Vir Das and Kavi Shastri. It was a small appearance — not a lead role. But it was his first time on screen in years, and it told fans he was open to coming back.
Adhure Hum Adhure Tum is the real thing. A lead role. A film built around him.
What to watch for next
Three things will tell us how close the film really is to release. First, a platform announcement — Netflix or whoever it is will confirm the December 18 date. Second, post-production finishing, which Imran says the team is pushing hard on. And third, a teaser or trailer, which usually comes a few weeks before an OTT premiere.
For now, fans who grew up humming “Kabhi Kabhi Aditi” have a date to look forward to: December 18, 2026.
