Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Pune Metro Line 3 on 3 November 2026. The line is called the Pink Line. It runs 23.203 km from Maan to District Court station, per the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) statement reported by The Hindu and ETV Bharat.
Passenger services began at 6:00 am on 4 November 2026. That’s the key fact for commuters. The line links the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjewadi, Pune’s big IT hub, to Shivajinagar. For thousands of IT workers, this means a metro ride instead of a long, jammed road trip.
What the Pink Line covers
The corridor is fully elevated. It has 23 stations in total. But only 17 stations opened to passengers first, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) said. The other 6 stations will open later. No date for those 6 was given in the reports we checked.
The line cost over Rs 8,300 crore to build. One report put the exact figure at Rs 8,313 crore. The project was built under a public-private partnership (PPP). In plain words, a PPP means a private company builds and runs the project with the government, instead of the government doing it all alone. Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited built this line under that model.
Run by women, powered in part by sun
The Pink Line will be run entirely by women train operators, the PMO said. That’s a first for a metro line in India. Reports also say about 30% of the line’s power needs are planned to come from solar energy. Solar power means electricity made from sunlight, not coal or gas.
PM Modi also spoke about India’s metro growth at the event. He said the country’s working metro network grew from 248 km before 2014 to 1,200 km now, The Hindu reported.

Four new corridors get foundation stones
At the same event, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for four new corridors under Pune Metro Phase II. A foundation stone marks the formal start of a project. It does not mean trains will run soon.
The four corridors, as named in event reports, are: Line 2A: Vanaz to Chandani Chowk (1.12 km, 2 stations); Line 2B: Ramwadi to Vitthalwadi/Wagholi (11.63 km); Line 4: Kharadi to Khadakwasla (25.52 km, 22 stations); Line 4A: Nal Stop to Manik Baug (6.12 km).
Together, Lines 2A, 2B, 4 and 4A add up to about 44.4 km, per the Free Press Journal’s breakdown of the PMO figures. They will link areas like Kharadi, Wagholi, Hadapsar, Magarpatta, Swargate, Warje and Kothrud.
What it means for you
If you work in Hinjewadi, check whether one of the 17 open stations is near your office or home. The line connects to District Court station, which links to the rest of Pune’s metro network. If your station is among the 6 not yet open, you’ll still need road transport for now — keep an eye on PMRDA announcements for their opening dates.
Own calculation: 17 of 23 stations open at launch = 73.9% of the Pink Line’s stations. So roughly 3 in 4 stations are usable from day one.
Note on figures: the day’s combined package is around Rs 21,800 crore per The Hindu and The Economic Times; the four Phase-II corridors alone are put at around Rs 13,500 crore by the Free Press Journal — different groupings, not mixed here. Line 2B station counts conflict across reports (11 vs 5), so no Line 2B station count is stated above.
